October 30, 2012-Tony Bettenhausen Jr Happy Birthday

What a nice guy. In 1973 Butch Meyer and I went over to the trailer where Tony was living. He had just returned from running several NASCAR Sprint Cup races and was turing his attention back to Midgets and IndyCars. That night, Tony said he was going to show us what they drank down south, the drink of the god’s as he put it. Turns out it was a can of Budweiser mixed with Boones Farm Strawberry wine. We were young, we drank it.

He had 11 Indy 500 starts with a best finish of 7th in 1981 his rookie year.
