January 6, 2013-Who is this guy and yesterday’s answer and Happy Birthday Pat Flaherty!

Yesterday’s photo featured Sir Jack Brabham. Three time F1 World Champion and 4 time competitor in the 500. His first year, 1961, was his best starting 13th and finishing 9th. He also made the race in 1964, 1969 and 1970. His son, Geoff also ran at Indianapolis with 10 starts from 1981 to 1993. Geoff also competed in the first Brickyard 400 starting 18th and finishing 38th.

Happy Birthday to 1956 Indianapolis 500 winner Pat Flaherty. Pat had 5 Indy starts with 3 top 10 finishes and one pole!

    The picture was taken in 1914.

    The car was a Duesenberg – chassis and engine.
    He started 23rd and finished 10th, and won $1,400.

    He started four times – 1912, 1914, 1915 and 1916.
    He bought the Speedway in 1927.
