With the announcement AJ Foyt will enter Chase Austin in the 2013 Indianapolis 500, I thought it would make sense to remember the first African-American to make the race.
Now it doesn’t make sense to skip over George Mack either, as he had a nice effort in 2002. Starting 32nd and finishing 17th.
But Willie T. Ribbs was in Indianapolis in February of 2011 to help the Speedway ramp up interest in the 100th aniversary race that May. Willie ran two 500’s, 1991 and 1993. His best start was 29th and finish was 21st. As always, he was a entertaining interview
